Italy: international students by region of destination
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it it Lombardy the Italian region that attracted more international student in the A.Y. 2020/2021, the Italian University ministry reports.
With 4.229 new international students, Lombardy, which is home of 14 universities, tops this peculiar chart. In other words, Lombrady attracted almost one fourth of the whole international cohort.
Lombardy is then followed by Lazio, the region or Rome. Rome itselfs hosts some 16 HEIs. Alone, La Sapienza welcomed 1.236 international students this year.
The third place in the chart goes to Emilia-Romagna, the region of Bologna (1.380 international students, i.e. the university # 1 in Italy last year).
Piedmont, the region of Turin comes fourth, with 1.868 international students.
Combined, these 4 regions account for nearly the two thirds of all international students that chose Italy.
