The masterplan of urban regeneration of the Port of Porta Romana was presented in a press conference last July, 15, press reports. Of course, the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games here will provided with a brand new Olympic Village. The project of the Olympic Village was assigned to the US company Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and will be delivered by July 2025.

This area is about 60 thousand square meters wide: after the Olympics will be transformed into a large student-friendly compound. The athletes’ homes will therefore be assigned new destination of student housing, but they also be used by other professional categories outside the academic year.

The park and railway buildings in the area of the Olympic Square will be used for subsidised residence for the Milase, as well as startuppers. An Olympic Village Plaza is meant to be the new square of the district, overlooking the shops on the street floor of the buildings. There will be space for farmers markets and events.

From the environmental point of view the village will impact Nzeb (Nearly Zero Energy Building). The construction materials used for the Olympic Village will be chosen for their sustainability characteristics (recyclability, reuse, environmental compatibility). All buildings will be Leed certified. All buildings will be permanent: temporary structures will be reusable.

Coima Sgr, a leading Milanese group “a leading group in the investment, development and management of real estate assets on behalf of institutional investors”, will organise the conversion from village to campus.

The project provides for 1,000 rooms for students, a new square with shops, greenhouses and gardens, thus allowing the creation of the first village for students with zero-mile products.

“It will be a lively ecosystem of student housing, residences, co-working spaces, private and public spaces. It will attract university students, young people, entrepreneurs, micro-companies that can socialise, experiment and share” the promoters explain.

The area will be managed through a digital platform to monitor the performance of buildings and the involvement of the community, with the realization of the digital twin.
