ARWU ‘s (Shanghai Jiao Tong) is one of the three international global rankings generally recognised by the industry. The other two are QS and THE – Times Higher Education.
I analysed this year’s ARWU ‘s (Shanghai Jiao Tong) general ranking, finding out some exciting features of the Italian university system.
Considering the numerical consistency of HEIs placed in the top 1,000 positions in ARWU, the Italian system is 5th in the World.
Likewise, it happens in the Olympic medals’ chart, higher value medal count, individually, more than abundant lower value medals.
Overall, Italy is positioned 19th in the World as far as quality is concerned, as Italy places more institutions in lower positions if compared to other university systems (e.g.: with only 13 HEIs ranked, but with 4 of those in the top 100, the Netherlands is 8th globally).
