Foundation Year programs in Italy
The offer of foundation year programs in Italy is growing: some 9 different courses are available in July 2021. Most of them are fully booked already, a clear sign of the vitality of the Italian academic system.
A foundation year bridges the gap if you don’t have the right qualifications to go straight on to an undergraduate degree programme. It provides a broad introduction to subjects of your choice and helps you gain valuable academic, study and English language skills.
Some programs in Italy offer also courses in Italian, for prospective students willing to fill their Italian language gaps in order to enrol in the academic year following the foundation year itself.

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice
The programme offers a general curriculum for University preparation to all students, as well as 4 Study Tracks that aim to provide students an elementary background in the subjects they are interested in pursuing during their undergraduate studies. Students also take a language module in either Italian or English, depending on the degree programme they are planning on enrolling in.

University of Pavia
The course includes both Italian language classes and preparatory courses from one of the following study areas: (1) Humanities; (2) Science and Medicine; (3) Economics, Law, and Politics.

Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA)
The foundation year allows participants to build the foundations to undertake any first-level degree program included in the so-called “RUFA – Experience”. In this context, students can put themselves to the test, improve their relationship with the language, come into contact with the university and national academic excellence and generate professional relationships with the teachers.

University of Parma
A full immersion preparatory program for international students wishing to enrol at the University of Parma or any Italian University or a Music Conservatory. It is organized in collaboration with A. Boito Music Conservatory in Parma.
It addresses prospective students holding a high school diploma but who have linguistic or cultural gaps and/or less than 12 years of schooling, as required by Law to access university in Italy.

University of Siena / Università per stranieri di Siena
Siena’s FY program provides the students with adequate preparation in the comprehension of the Italian language and offers a deep academic preparation for entry into an Italian University. In particular, thanks to this program, international students will have the opportunity to improve their written and spoken Italian language, their communicative skills, and they will be able to familiarize themselves with the Italian and European Union’s criteria of academic teaching and learning.

Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli – IED Network – Como site
The Academic Foundation in Italian Creativity & Design is designed for international and national students that are interested to obtain a First Level Academic Diploma but do not reach the minimum requirements, such as 12 years of schooling or previous knowledge about the creative and artistic sectors. The teaching methodology consists of practical, theoretical, and demonstrative lectures, visiting, and individual coaching/orientation meetings.

University of L’Aquila – Pre-Master’s Foundation Programme in Applied Mathematics
The Pre-Master’s Foundation Programme (PMFP) in Applied Mathematics aims at homogenizing the competencies portfolios of prospective students of the two Master’s Programmes in Mathematical Modelling and Mathematical Engineering at the University of L’Aquila, which include the Erasmus Mundus program “InterMaths – Interdisciplinary Mathematics”, the joint Master’s program “MathMods”, and the “InterMaths” Double Degree program.

University of Pisa
Pisa’s Foundation Course (FC) is a pre-university program for students without the minimum school requirements to apply for an undergraduate degree in an Italian university.
Indeed, for university enrollment, a secondary school leaving certificate obtained after 12 years of school is normally required.
