Marketing strategies for universities: is there a top 10 out there?
Video, social media, SEO, SEM, branding: when talking about university marketing, everything today seems to happen online only.
But marketers know a relevant off-line component is needed, too. Promotional material is the cornerstone of each marketing campaign. This is your way your institution presents itself to the World, and mistakes are not allowed. Especially, wrong references to religion, ethnicity, and sex are to be avoided altogether.
Also, HEIs may be willing to engage recruitment agencies or to organise recruitment fairs. Fairs nowadays are mostly held online, though many sustain that the old “physical” model, where HEIs can directly interact with students, has to be preferred. COVID-19 has by the time of writing this post (December 2020) eliminated all non-online options.
The institutions that already have resolved to go online for their marketing may find the following list somehow obsolete.
That said, a useful post from Penji lists the 10 most successful marketing strategies for universities:
- Social media
- User-generated posts
- Define your brand image
- Focus on students
- Video marketing on all platforms
- Statistics
- Promote sitting in classrooms before enrolling
- SEO and similar programs
- Showcase success
- Embrace diversity
