Wuhan University expels overseas students. As reported, 92 international students by the Hubai-based institution.
Wuhan University is a national research university located in Wuhan, Hubei. It is one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China and was recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a Class A Double First Class University.
It was one of the four elite universities in the early Republican period and is also one of the oldest universities in China.
The university is well known for research in fields such as the social sciences, remote sensing, survey engineering, and hydraulic engineering.
It is administered by the Ministry of Education of China and was selected by both Project 985 and Project 211 as a major recipient of state funding.
As reported, the university expelled the students for low grades or breaking school rules. The move seems to respond to the Ministry of Education’s call for improving the quality of international education.
With about 492,000 overseas students, China has become Asia’s largest and the world’s third-largest destination for degree-seeking students. China maintains the role of World’s largest source of international students.
Therefore, as in other fields, Beijing today is a world leader in international education.
So why Wuhan University expels overseas students? This action seems to respond to the search for higher quality criteria.
China’s moving from quantity to quality, or to quantity and quality? No doubt, China’s HEIs are becoming more and more competitive in the global landscape. As demonstrated by the surge of Chinese HEIs in global rankings, Beijing is heavily investing in its tertiary education sector.
