Is Zoom University already here?

Is Zoom University already here?

Is Zoom University already here? As lessons move online, students questions whether they signed their loans to learn in front of a screen.

While good old Skype has gone out of business almost overnight, few would doubt that the Zoom app is today indispensable.

The days are organised around zoom-based appointments.  “I’ll send you a Zoom invitation” quickly replaced the old “I’ll send you a memo” way to end a phone conversation.

On the other hand, Zoom is “temporarily removing the 40-minute time limit on free Basic accounts for primary and secondary schools affected by the COVID-19”, as one can read on the app’s homepage.

So the question is: how long will it take to Zoom to establish its university?

Apparently, not so long. Hoodies, merchandising, and athletic apparel are already available to buy on the internet, where a good 100% cotton fleece sells for as little as 36 bucks (see for example https://lnkd.in/dEuCUUk).

As the usage of his video conferencing software skyrockets amid the coronavirus pandemic Eric Yuan, the Stanford-graduate founder and CEO of Zoom, has made nearly $4 billion in 3 months.

Meanwhile, the San José-based company hit the NASDAQ making its shareholders rich almost overnight.

So Is Zoom University already here? Maybe it’s too early to say. But meanwhile, on the web, jokes flourish. An all-time favourite is: “did I really take out a loan for this”?
