Coronavirus_ 94% of university classes already on line in Italy

On-line classes up to 94% of total

On-line classes from 0 to 94% in Italy over few weeks.

Just over a month after the outbreak of coronavirus, Italian HEIs have already transferred on line some 62K classes, i.e. the 94% of the total, daily “Sole 24 Ore” published today reports, quoting the minister of University, Prof. Gaetano Manfredi.

All major HEIs have reached the objective of having 100% of on-line classes operative within the first trimester of 2020.

By March 20 1,2 million university students, or the 80% of the total, had attended a virtual class, whereas in the same period 26K students have obtained their degrees, defending on line their dissertations.

In the same article prof. Ferruccio Resta, the President of CRUI, the Rectors’ association, says international mobility will suffer a great deal.

Prof. Resta also says that traditional teaching will always be to be preferred to online. In the future, mixed a hybrid forms may have experimented, for example keeping on line basic courses to concentrate on specialisations while in the classroom. Though clear trends of teaching mobìving on-line are already visible.

In any case, great proof of snap adapting by the Italian system as a whole.
