Didactics and innovative research: JoVE’s scientific videos
In recent years, teachers and researchers have reprogrammed their activities making them flexible and therefore suitable for any type of scenario and environment. In this context, the choice of tools to be used in the training process is a crucial moment in the design of teaching and laboratory activities.
This is the main reason that pushed JoVE, the world’s leading producer and publisher of multidisciplinary science videos, to organize an interactive laboratory open to the entire Italian scientific community in which it was discussed the advantages of using video as a valid innovative tool to support internships, educational programs and research in presence, remotely or hybrids.
Presenting the virtual meeting, Mr Fabrizio Doccula, Research & Education Manager of JoVE, showed how the use of scientific video protocols (Jove Research) and educational video demonstrations (Jove Education) improve learning outcomes and prepare students for research and the world of work.
Over 700 attendees, from about 40 Italian universities and research centres, followed the online laboratory.
During the meeting, space was given to the description of the different types of scientific-technical support offered to teachers through concrete examples such as projects carried out in collaboration with the coordinators of degree courses and practical evaluation internships.
In particular, the project in synergy with the University of Pavia demonstrates how the multidisciplinary video content shared with medical students have been fundamental to completing the evaluation practical internship in the presence.

During the webinar, Professor Albamaria Parmeggiani of the University of Bologna gave evidence of how videos are a valid tool used by teachers to support the educational process and scientific growth.
Professor Parmeggiani stressed that the opportunity to access JoVE not only encourages the innovation of teaching but also stimulates the curiosity of students, a quality that is at the basis of the progress of scientific research. It is no coincidence that increasing the reproducibility of research methods and productivity has been one of the main objectives that Jove has set himself since its conception. The possibility of adding to the traditional textual protocol also the video experience allows researchers to reproduce the experiment more easily and save time and resources.
The meeting ended with numerous questions from the participants, as a further confirmation of how the multidisciplinary nature of the video resource is able to respond to the needs of teachers and researchers in terms of innovative activities adhering to the challenges of the present and not only.
