The evolution of higher-ed (2000-2019)

The evolution of higher education from 2000 to 2011

A recently updated video by Keystone on the evolution of higher education in the World over the last 20 years show how metrics have risen dramatically.

International students have risen from 2 to 5 million, while 9 million European students have benefited from an Erasmus experience, which by far represents the most successful program of the Community, after Union, European, a sign that the “bottom-down aggregation” often works better than that imposed by vertices.

There has been an exponential expansion of online degree courses (as well as Moocs), and social media are increasingly being used and appreciated to recruit students internationally.

While new fields of study have emerged, such as virtual reality, robotics and data science, the global student population is expected to reach 250.7 million by the end of 2020.
