Over the last decade, Beijing has taken upon itself to charm theworld: from economic investment to cultural diplomacy in the arts,in free Mandarin lessons, in the projection of soft power, be it through the Olympic Games of 2008 or the Expo of 2010. In truth, however, China’s interest in Soft Power goes back much earlier.
